Brief History & Spiritual Insight
• Founded: 1887; grew rapidly as a railroad, ranching, and cattle shipping hub.
• Name meaning: Amarillo = “yellow” (from the yellow wildflowers and soil).
• Economy: Strong in ranching, agriculture, oil, natural gas, and railroads.
• Culture: Known as the “Yellow Rose of Texas” and gateway to the Texas Panhandle.
• Spiritual Note: Amarillo has faced droughts, economic hardship, racial segregation in its past, and drug-related challenges—but also has a strong Christian heritage, with many churches and ministries planted in the Panhandle.Apostle C
